His father was exiled from Nepal for making suggestions for social development. He accompanied his father to Banaras at the age of four, and he completed his education there. He has been a disciplined, honest, selfless, and simple person since his childhood, and he began his political career by participating in the India Revolution. He had the ability to mix up with people and was interested in reading newspapers and participating in rallies and demonstrations. He was also able to articulate his ideas and arguments with flair, which helped him establish himself in politics.

He was well-known not just as a politician but also as a writer. Regarding his contributions and literary career, he began by publishing a story in Hindi in the magazine “Hansa” in 1987 BS. His first Nepali story, “Chandrabadan,” was published in Sarada magazine in 1992 BS. In Nepali literature, he was the first to present a novel concept—human psychology. Novels like Tin Ghumti, Narendra Dai, Hitler ra Yahudi, Sumnima, Babu-Aama ra Chora, Modiaain, and story collections like Doshi Chasma are among his famous literary works. His autobiography, Afnu Katha, is a different one.

BP Koirala was first imprisoned in Banaras when he participated in the anti-British movement in 1987 BS. During that time, both Nepal and India were involved in the freedom movement—Nepal against Rana rule and India against British colonial rule. The Bharat Chodo (Leave India) movement was in full swing, and he was jailed in Patna for the second time when he again participated in the movement. He spent three years in the Hajaribaag jail there, and it was then that his father, Krishna Prasad Koirala, died. He was also diagnosed with cancer; however, he struggled through it and entered into Nepali politics.

He had completed his studies with a BA in Political Science and Economics and a Bachelor in Law (B.L.). He actively participated in the abolition of Rana rule for the development of Nepal and Nepalese and also founded the Nepali Congress Party in 2003 BS. Besides this, in 2004, he led the labour strike and went on a 29-day hunger strike, demanding the improvement of prisons and the establishment of democracy. Through his hard work and time spent in jail, Nepal gained democracy in 2007 BS, and he was appointed Home Minister in the first temporary government.

BP Koirala believed that the constitution is the base of a democratic nation and worked for the establishment of the Nepali Constitution from 2007 BS to 2015 BS. In the same context, he successfully conducted ‘Bhadra Awagya Andolan’ and ‘Satyagraha’ in 2014 in order to organise elections for drafting the Constitution of Nepal in 2015 Falgun 1. As a result, he became the first prime minister in Nepal to receive widespread public support. Regretfully, the Poush 1 Royal Decree of 2017 destroyed democracy, and Koirala was sentenced to a long term in jail.

B.P. Koirala, a great politician and leader, died in 2039 BS. He was the best example of a nation-loving, honest, and dedicated leader whose death shook the whole nation, and the present political condition of the country demands the need for a true leader like B.P. Koirala.
