Early Life
Balen Shah was born on April 27, 1990, to Ram Narayan Shah and Dhruva Devi Shah. He is the youngest child of his parents. He is a Nepalese rapper and leader outside of politics. Balendra Shah is also known as Balen Shah.
His maternal house is in Dhanusha, whereas his paternal ancestral home is in Mahottari Ekdara Rural Municipality. After his father was appointed to Naradevi Ayurvedic Hospital, his parents relocated from Mahottari to Kathmandu.
Education
At Alliance Academy, Balen completed his academic career. At the V.S. Niketan higher secondary school, he completed his 10+2 coursework. He finished his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Himalayan Whitehouse International College. He obtained a master’s degree (MTech) in structural engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Karnataka, India.
Engineering Career
Balen has a multitalented personality. His interests and work have proven this. He is better known as an engineer than for his musical career. As a bridge engineer for Asian Construction Company Pvt. Ltd., a shelter engineer for Nepal Help Organisation, a technical advisor for ASF Nepal, a project manager for Soaltee City, a transportation engineer for Bajra Guruu Constructions, a DDA engineer for the Nepal Society of Earthquake Technology, and a deputy general manager for the Padma Group of Companies, he has worked in a variety of positions.
Rapper Career
Balen Shah had a passion for poetry and music from a young age. He released his first single, Sadak Balak, which he wrote while in the ninth grade, in 2012. After making his debut on the YouTube combat rap series Raw Barz in 2013, he became well-known among Nephop enthusiasts.
He also released songs like “Aam Nepali Buba,” “Police Patrikar,” and “Nepal Hasseko,” which also reflect the social and political climate of the country. Legendary hip-hop artist Yama Buddha was active in Nepal at the time.
Balen Shah and Yama Buddha were friends, and Balen received help from Yama Buddha to enter the hip-hop industry. At the time, Yama Buddha hosted the popular rap battle programme Raw Barz.
Then Balen Shah said he would want to get into a rap fight and asked Yama Buddha for permission. Yama Buddha noticed true skill in his partner, so he let him join in and start the rap adventure.
Although Balen Shah has eighteen songs available on his own YouTube channel, some of his most well-known ones include Gorkhali Toph, Balidan, and Marpha Ko Madira Ft. Swachit Shakya.

Talking about his married life, in 2018 AD, Balen Shah was married to Sabina Kafle, a public health professional. Balen Shah resides in Gairigaun, Tinkune, with his family.
Politics
Balendra Shah can talk with clarity and precision. Balen appears less natural as a politician since he consistently wears dark glasses. The online news media has increased discussion about Balen’s political image.
He has received support from a wide range of celebrities, and for many ordinary citizens, he is a symbol of hope for the future of the country’s progress.
Balen reportedly had a first attraction to the Bibeksheel Party but decided against joining in order to pursue his studies of engineering and rap at the same time.
Prior to the Nepali constitution being passed in 2015, he took part in the “We for Constitution movement.”
He had also expressed interest in contesting for mayor of Kathmandu in the municipal elections of 2017, but ultimately decided against it as he lacked the necessary preparation.
After waiting for five years, he finally declared his intention to run for mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan in 2022.
Balendra Shah received 38.6% of the vote on May 26, 2022, and was chosen as the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan. He defeated former mayor Srijana Shrestha of the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) candidate Keshav Sthapit by a margin of more than 23,000 votes.
